The Wank, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

The Wank, one of the several ski areas of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region has been lift serviced since 1929.
The present Gondola opened in 1982 and was built in 1981 by PWH, the last incarnation of Pohlig Heckel Bleicher (PHB).
The new lift was built because of an increase in visitors with cars. The loading area of the new lift allowed for larger
parking lots to be constructed. The gondola is 3000m long, (section 1 = 1,670 m, section 2 = 1,330 m). It has 29 towers,
135 four person cabs built by DeGiorgi and can carry 1000 people per hour. The trip takes 18 minutes to complete
both sections. DeGiorgi is still in business as an automobile body designer and fabricator. Pictures 1-17 show a trip up
from the base of the gondola through the middle station to the summit. Also shown are the builders plaques and the
first aid cabin. These pictures are followed by 5 photos of the construction of the gondola. The following 3 pics
show the removal of the former tram. The last 2 pics show the Gipfellift, a Karl Heuss brand T-Bar.
